Soil Science is an important branch of Agriculture which deals with studies of different areas like soil physics, soil chemistry, soil fertility and plant nutrition, soil biology and biochemistry, soil survey, genesis and classification, soil mineralogy, soil conservation etc. It is therefore essential that this valuable natural resource is understood and conserved properly for sustained Agricultural production. Concept of Soil: The term “Soil” is derived from the Latin word “Solum” means “floor/ground”. To an agriculturist soil is a natural medium for plant growth. It is the mother–earth that provides him livelihood and the means to survive. Soil is a upper layer of earth crust in which plants grow. Spheres of Earth Geographically earth constitutes of three spheres corresponding to three states of matter (Solid, Liquid & Gas) which constitute the earth.
